You’ve obviously mastered the Organoil Danish Oil which I never have. My results have been disappointing - I think perhaps I’m not sanding to a high enough grit. Do you sand wet or dry? Is the final burnishing done by hand or power buffed?

Thanks Brian. I sand it all dry and go to 1200 grit for most of it as per recommendations by Roger Gifkins in his instructional plans and DVD's. I go up to 2000 grit for the insert as that is usually the centre of attention and that does put a little more sheen on it. Pauls321 put me on to the higher grit for a bit more sheen and looking across the surface at a low angle looks like a mirror but I can't seem to pick that up with the camera. If the piece is large enough I do most of my sanding with a ROS, but then go over it again by hand with the last couple of grits going with the grain. I don't know if that is required but most people in the know say to finish sanding with the grain so I do.
In regard to buffing, I only used a lambswool buff and didn't see much difference after but that was only a day after the second coat. I will wait until the recommend week and have another go as you could actually see some liquid come back to the surface in spots as I buffed. It's recommended to leave for a week to harden and wax after that, which I will do.
In saying all that, the Organoil will not leave a shiny surface like other DO's, you have to create the sheen on the wood first and it will never be as shiny as the others, but is very easy to work with and only 2 coats required.

Hey Dallas, lovely box there mate, the contrasting timbers look super. I can't use any oils that contain the word "organoil", my wife's allergy is terrible with those. Hence is why I make my own Danish Oil.
