    Default A simple box

Made of oak and black walnut. It's just something I did between some other things to relax my mind.

Very nice proportions. Nice decorative and strengthening splines in the corners. No noticeable squeeze-out of glue in the inside corners, which is one of my recurrent failings. Is the bottom a floating panel or is it glued rock solid? I like it

One of the reason I'm doing some simple items right now is I'm trying hot hide glue. It is really easy to clean up and doesn't seem to interfere with the finish as much as modern glues. The fininsh is a base coat of thinned linseed oil with a top coat of linseed oil / beeswax mix (roughly 50:50).

The bottom is a floating panel of 1/4 inch plywood from another project I'm working on.

Thanks for all the positive coments

    Great handle!

I can't tell from the pix (maybe time to revisit my eye-quack?) whether the round base of the knob is inset into the lid? Or is it just sitting on top?

    Nice work.
With any glue, put some furniture waxwhere you don't want the squeeze out to stick. Then after it's hry, just run a chisel under it to get rid of the glue, then clean off the wax with white spirits (shellite).

    Nice box...
I served my apprenticeship using hot glue, before aquadhere came along. Much simpler to wipe the excess glue off with a damp cloth. One good thing about it, is that it makes restoration work on old furniture, much simpler. Only us it now for restoration work as the new glue will soften and bond to the old stuff. As an apprentice. it was my job to clean out the pot each afternoon and soak the glue for the next day and keep it at the right temperature.

It is inset. And the handle wasn't a real good fit so I mixed some powdered charcoal into epoxy to fill in. It is almost unnoticible if you don't already know it's there.

Thanks. It's the little details like that which raise it up a level.
