    Default Simple fly box

As SIL is into fly fishing, I've made him a simple fly box from southern silky oak, with cork-lined racks to keep the flies on.
    Finished with Kunos oil.

Nice box Alex. Far too pretty to be carted around with the fishing gear!

Noice! How do you make the dimple cut for the finger grip?

Thanks Silent. It's just carved out with a semicircular gouge.

You wouldn't want to sneeze in the middle of doing it!

Elegant accessory. Unlike my expensive metal fly boxes, may I presume that it floats?
The cork is a good idea = no need to aim straight for some little clip fixture.
Standing waist deep in a river, rod in one hand and intent on changing flies,
can the box be opened with one hand?

It will float, but I suspect it's a bit awkward to open single handed, although possible. If I make another, it will probably be smaller, and have more prominent handles for opening.

Good. Make the next one easy to open with frozen fingers, fishing for steelhead in the Morice/Bulkley/Dean.
A$$deep in the river at -10C is the warmest place to be, short of sitting in the truck with the heater on.
    Dang good box.
Rig the divots to open at or near the top and bottom corners.
Put gloves on. Fumble with the box in the dark. You'll get the idea very quickly.

I have been known to bust the ice out of my rod guides, yes.
Many would consider that to be a personality flaw.
4X4 and chains, we get in and out.

The fishing is no puzzle, the little things become a hassle to do in the cold.
At the very, very least, a wooden fly box would not likely freeze to wet fingers
at -10C like my aluminium boxes do. Sticky, like Duct Tape.

That's a fine build. I like the wood, design and finish.
