Default Smart Hinge or Neat Hinge alternatives?

    Hi all,

I'm after some spanky strap hinges for a new box job that's coming up. It's a WW2Aust army stiletto box with medals and lining. Must be a good job!

Smart Hinge seems kaput for the time being and Neat Hinge is OOS until May.

I was looking at Carrolls and HardwareForCreativeFinishes and their strap hinges.

Does anyone have any experience using them? Quality good for a presentation box?

I can't say that I've used the hinges from Carrol's but everything else I've bought from them has been excellent.

If you want something really classy, then you could try a pair of quadrant hinges from Anton Gerner in Melbourne. You can get them in polished brass or Silver plated. They look very good.

Those hinges suit that box nicely, Rob, well done. Like the SmartHinge they are simple and classy. Did you have much trouble fitting them? That is the beauty of the SmartHinge, quick and easy to install. I am looking for alternatives too, having run out of smartHinges

    Hi Dengue,

No, they aren't straight forward or particularly cheap, but some practice and patience rewards you with a very classy finish.

I had some reservations about the Smart Hinges, not about their ease of use, but about consistency of supply. He had some problems about two years ago with supply. At the price he charges, I would expect supply to be better than it is. I'll keep using Quad hinges, or 90 degree stop hinges from Michael Mogy in Queensland

    Regards,

    Rob
