After missing out on workshop time last Wednesday due to commitments and Sunday due to kids sporting fixtures I managed to get some time in the workshop today to do some rounding-over. And comb teeth cut, ready for final delicate sanding. Bits used were:
    1) 1/2" Shank - 1/4" radius round over
    2) 1/2" Shank - 3/8" radius round over
    3) 1/4" Shank - Table round over - a wider shallower round over bit, one of my favourites.

Getting there and they're looking good. Will really pop when you get some finish on them.

Expansion question. By gluing a solid top to the sides (then adding the trim edges later, are there not expansion issues with the top? What if it wants to move? Would not the sides and the trim pieces create resistance and force a blowout?

    Hey Fumbler,

Are the top and bottom of this box veneered ply or solid wood? I'm eagerly awaiting an answer to Alan's question.

    Gents,

to be honest, I had never considered any such “blow out”. The box is made of 5 x 10mm thick pieces, each rebated into the other, with. 4mm space left around the outer perimeter. For the contrasting timber, then router’d to ensure uniform depth.

I hope this is what your asking.

If I understand correctly: The lid is solid walnut, 10mm thick, set into a 6mm deep rebate leaving 4mm projecting above the box sides to allow for the fastening of the lipping.

Or is the rebate cut into the lid?

Ok, now I get you, my apologies, it was a long night last night at work last night. I’ve just gone through my photos and it started out that way as all 10mm thick and the top was going to be rebated in but alas I remembered something happened with a top just as thick as the sides and when the lid was separated it curled and overpowered the lid walls so this time I thinned the top down. the top is however solid Walnut, but only 5mm thick not 10mm.

    heres the photos
