Thanks Cisco. The finish used was a turps based sanding sealer followed by several coats of a Scandinavian oil applyed by rubbing it on the timber.
Cheers

Hi Bruce,
Got a Ryobi Trimmer TR50A for a song at $12 fom a garage sale....bla bla bla, I already had the bit the only thing still that I'm not sure of is the mortise for the stay is cut using the drill press:? Can you tell me how (it might be a stupid question to some)?
Thanks
Jack
The only stupid question is an unasked one . I use the drill press with a fence set up to drill a series of overlapping holes the width and depth required for the stay to function . Just make sure the drill is smaller than the width of the hinge leg and the holes aren't too close to the screw location for the hinge . Did you get a template bush with the trimmer ?
Cheers Bruce
Hi Jack ,
if all else fails you could make a false base plate to accept an aftermarket guide bush !
Bruce
