    Default Teak and Huon

I was recently given a piece of teak that originally had been a sink bench on a large yacht. Some friends had stored the teak under their house for many years. I should have photographed the teak before I started this box.
I had one small piece of huon for the lid that was rather bland so I decided to embellish it a little in the design.
This was one of those projects where I had some basic ideas on where I was going but as it progressed it changed. I decided to add the teak pieces on the lid to make the hinge and handle lift and this gave the opprtunity to compound the curve. It is a little different.
Having the curved lid gave room to raise the lift handles on the trays.
And my head I'd be a scratchin'
While my thoughts were busy hatchin'
If I only had a brain.

A beautiful box! I particularly like the lid. While I appreciate the work in the lift handles on the trays it does limit their storage capascity.

    Very very nice.

    Hi Ruddy,

Any chance of a picture from a lower perspective, eg a bit more front on (and the back too please), also I'd love to see the box from the side on, to get more of an idea of the carved handle please .

    thanks
    Wendy

Ruddy-You have a natural ability for design and construction. Something most of us (well Me anyway) will never be able to achieve. Wonderful work

That's a beautiful piece of design and construction. It looks like the teak has a nice pattern at the front, too. Any chance of a pic showing that please.

    Thanks for the comments.
Wendy, Alex, here are some more pictures of the box showing the hinge detail and also more on the grain in the teak. There were only two areas in the savalged teak that had knots and so I chose to feature them at the front and the back of the box.
The box measures about 280 long x 160 wide x 120 deep so it is not a small box.
And my head I'd be a scratchin'

    Thanks Ruddy.

The hinge and handle are pieces of art in the themselves - a real inspiriation.

The teak grain has come up beautifully after finishing.
