Default 'A long time between drinks!'

    Kia ora,

It has certainly been a long time since I posted a message to this very special Forum. No excuses
My wife and I are attending a wedding in a week or so where our nephew is marrying a lovely young woman. The bride brings to the wedding her 10 year old daughter from a previous marriage. The daughter is a very special young lady and of course is an important part of the wedding. Although the invitation stated 'no presents', I am not good at following directions, so have made a butchers block cutting board and smaller cheese board for the bride and groom. My wife and I thought the daughter should also receive a gift to commemorate the day, hence the jewellery box. The case is Rimu with Kwila corner slices. I am still trying to identify the lid! Decided to incorporate the burnt end - nothing to do with the terrible experiences you are undergoing in Australia at present. As a very important aside, our thoughts and what little assistance we in New Zealand can give (presently RNZAirforce and NZFire Service personnel) are with you all.
Back to the box for a moment - I picked up some good hints on this Forum as to how to construct the ring-holder rolls. Used a 15mm dia polystyrene inner section with the felt wrapped around and glued. Seems to work, but I need a lot more practice!

Thank you to all members of this Forum for your real informative contributions - always an absolute pleasure to read and absorb!

Very nice box and a very nice thought regarding the daughter whom I am sure she will love it. Certainly an interesting piece of wood you have used for the lid but I can't help with identifying it.
It's a pity the photos were compressed so much as it would have been nice the see them larger when opened up.

Well made box. I love the bright purple lining. Sure to be a winner.
When all is said and done, there is usually a whole lot more said than done.
