Got my timber prepared yesterday and strips glued up overnight.
The mitred corners should be easy this box because I have ripped a 45% angle on one of the strips and hope to get eight corners strips.

The box should now be known as tissue box ASAP, I have decided to add a further ash band above the purpleheart for colour design.

Made myself a jig to do the mitres.

Finally got to the shed and glued on the runners and had screws also ready to insert to hold runners to base.

Whilst glue was setting gave the last five boxes another coat of acrylic varnish, and at 4pm gave one of them away to a neighbour and said "heres a tissue box for you, it should compensate for some of the machinery noise you've heard lately" she replied "thank you, I thought the noise was coming from the woods behind caused by tree cutting"

Also sharpened up three plane blades that have been in need the last few weeks.

fitted the supports for mitre jig and did a test run (used slats in the end not the laminated board)

    Blade guard works.

and cut the first long section of tissue box asp.

However couldn't face doing the short end piece.

So cut the short end off by hand and tidied up on the sander.

    So had a good day.

The front and rear sides partly finished and glued up overnight.

I could not use the mitre jig safely on the small end pieces for the above, and the same will apply to the ends. So the short end of mitres were hand cut and sanded to shape on the bench sander, reasonably successfully.

Hoping to overcome problem of using jig on short pieces, I am going to glue some waste timber to its edge, insert a couple of screws through into the baseboard and then plane off after mitres are cut.

Decided to screw the waste piece of mitre cut to the baseboard of the mitre jig like this. Did not glue on any waste pieces.

Thats how small it is, longest side 90mm.

So got the box ends made up.

It is proving quite troublesome this box, I have worked out there are thirtytwo mitre cuts plus another eight corner mitre joints so just a fractional error on an angle can multiply very soon to a degree.

Next time I make one I shall make oversize so that corrections with hand planing can be done to square things up if necessary.

So its back to the workshop in a few minutes to try and put things right

It is looking good though John. And I think your ingenious mitre jigging on the small lengths would be a lot more accurate than my hand planing )

Things cant be too bad, the wife says she wants this one.

    Carcass glued up.

Whilst glue was setting I did some maintenance, repaired the shed door.

Fitted the purple heart panels, which I am not fitting flush with the box.

The mitred corners were a bit scruffy, ( I riped the mitre on the tablesaw and the wood grain is rather coarse) So I have put a p/h band on each edge.

Got another session in the workshop this afternoon, so cleaned up all outside faces and corners of carcass.

Two views of carcass with purple heart panels fitted and glued proud.

Started work on the lid which will vary from previous boxes made.

Can't wait for the job to be finished, must thank you very much for wonderful chats and pics.

    Your garden appears beautiful, too.
