One tool box, and several recently finished small boxes
Hi, all,
I decided to make a few small projects in the last month, and here they are:
This is the marquetry tool box for myself. Since I work on marquetry almost every day, it is time to make a handy tool box for my kit. Material: Pine, walnut, plywood. Size: 14''x17''x5''. Finish: danish oil and wax. I added one leather handle on the box so that it can be carried like a suitcase.
This is a small box with marquetry, to hold my shop-made marquetry coasters. Each box is 5''x5''x2'', made from either walnut or cherry (this one is walnut), just enough to hold two pieces of my coasters. It takes only 4 hours to finish one box (coaster not included), two hours on box and two on marquetry, and I give them off as small gifts to my friends. the finish is oil.
My first try of hexagonal boxes, made from wenge. the left one is covered with spalted maple and it looked not very great. So I made a smaller version with marquetry work, well, a little bit better. The bigger one is 3 inches on each side and the smaller one is 2.5'' each side. The finish is oil.
Another picture.
A small pen box, made from walnut, bloodwood, pine, poplar, and magnet. Size: 9''x3''x2.5''. Labour cost: 15 hours. Finish: Mineral Oil. Final sanded with 1500 grit sand paper. Like usual, I added my person name stamp (branded with a wood burning pen) on the box. Both the lid and the drawer are held to the box by 1/4" rare earth magnets. It worked quite well.

Very nice work Z. You obviously have a lot more patience than I do. Your marquetry work looks great.
I would experiment a little more with finishes to bring out the timbers. I seem to be trying different things every weekend.
regards
Billy

Lovely work, and I especially like the geese. I am just going to have to try some marquetry because, but I wonder if I could ever match what you have done here, and you must work like greased lightening to achieve those results in that time. More pics when you have them please!

Beautiful boxes. Great work.

Just in a month. Completed all these boxes. It takes me that long to clean up after the last project.
