Tray assembly 'jigs'
Making up my second octagonal box, and ran into the same problem as last time. No problem gluing the box sides together, but ran into an alignment problem when gluing the tray sides together. There just isn't enough thickness to guaranty that the shape was accurate, in fact it was not within a bull's roar.
Had a think about it, and cut out a couple of 'jigs' from 6mm mdf. Just a hole of the correct size, and shape. Tape/glue the pieces together and push into the corresponding hole until the glue sets. Also used it to hold the sides for final sanding, which helps to avoid accidentely popping a joint. Note to myself: sand the bltoody material befor you cut it next time, and avoid a lot of work.
Pic 1: The 'Jig'
Pic 2: The outer sides in place, and held to correct shape. 82mm per side
Pic 3: Closeup of the tray centre compartment, as glued. 38mm per side
Material is 3mm thick.Last edited by chrisb691; 15th December 2011 at 05:13 PM. Reason: Added info

Neat idea.
Reality is no background music.
