What type of wood is this?
Hi all, I do intend to make a box out of this lumber but I have no idea what it is. Can anyone help? Due to Covid I haven't been able to take it to the experts at the Melany wood show. The tree was planted adjacent to an old dairy cream shed up in the Horseshoe Creek valley, ( Kyogle Northern NSW) obviously not native. The fellow who cut it down didn't recollect any fruit being on the tree, very full of branches thick canopy of small longish leaves. No fragrance to the wood when cut pic of bark front & back included. Very distinctive yellowing where a branch was formed. The candle holder shows the finished colour. Quite heavy been in my garage at least 10 years.

Looks a bit like some English chestnut I once had. It also had the yellowing.

Wild guess would be Soapbush / Pink Ash (Alphitonia excelsa)- the yellow colour is common in it and it can finish a red colour as pictured. Native to that area also and common where birds gather eg: dairy.

I made a tea box.
Best match I could get is Claro Walnut. The bark & leaves are very close to what the tree had.
I did a grain match around the box with keyed miters. Inner & base match. The whole box came from the same tree.
