After being rained off for two days, I finally had another go at that box giving me aggro.
I glued the sections and piece edges to a flat piece of 3ply and then worked it through the thicknesser, ( I had to do this with the chevron box).
Also after lots of fiddling I had to put a banding around the section edges.
Picture of progress so far, all 6 boxes are in stages of completion,
There are another three boxes hanging about.
The apertures on the lids are not perfect, I could most probably do with a bobbin sander.woody U.K.

A very impressive batch Jow. Glad you figured out a way to get the tops through the thicknesser.

Nine boxes basically completed, need sanding and cleaning ready for a finish to be applied. Because the lacewood used I think I shall finish with varnish, the lacewood can be inclined to shed splinters and varnish should stop this?
I had the pleasure of receiving a request for another two boxes yesterday from a neighbour.woody U.K.

Very nice. Can't wait to see them with finish on them.
When all is said and done, there is usually a whole lot more said than done.

Had a good morning, cut off a 100mm wide slice from a 75mm thick sycamore board and got pieces suitable for five more boxes.
Took the precaution of weighing down the boards with this very very heavy length of what I think is Greenheart wood which I beachcombed from our local beach some years ago.

You are putting me to shame Jowie. Where do you get all your energy from? Time I got out there into the shed: the temperatures are warming up. I am going to make a jewellery box out of black bean and insert a picture of a couple who are to be married in October. I'll set the picture in 2-part clear epoxy. Just thinking about it is almost a day's work for me.
By the way, getting 100mm slices off a 75mm board is not bad )

Spent the day of Friday looking out for Devon farm girls, so project delayed slightly,
Additional five boxes requested.
40 mitred corners plus 15 cross cuts.
Glued up ready for the interesting part of the job.

Final picture of tissue boxes. Fifteen completed, (two left home already)
Family and neighbours have reserved the remaining boxes shown below.
I must admit I prefer to make an individual box rather than a series, it can become a chore, and there is more time to make amendments.
Thanks for looking.woody U.K.

Thank you for showing! So now you have all your Christmas boxes done for this year. What ingenious box project are you thinking about next?
I have just dovetailed the carcase for a jewellery box adapted from one of Roger Gifkin's plans. I am wondering whether I have cut the dovetails a bit looser than I should. I am using black bean, which is a nice Australian hardwood, and I think when I set up my Gifkin's jig for a good fit last time I was using a soft wood. I think that might have led to the bit of sloppiness I have got this time. But maybe it will glue up okay.

Perhaps the dampness of the glue will put things right for you.
Next project, I have to make another pentidy, the last one left for Australia and my daughter is still waiting for hers.
I estimate I have done 35 boxes since Marchwoody U.K.
