Inlays banding using the CNC
Brian asked recently if I ever routed the inlay banding recesses with the CNC. I have never done it so gave it a try.
Other than spending a few minutes to measure and setup the carve the actual carve is pretty quick. If someone tells me how I can upload a video clip if you want to see the router go round and round.
Overall I achieved a very tight fit and it's easily done. The only issue I can see is the height capacity of the CNC, my desktop CNC won't allow a full sized box under it so it will have to be done once the lid is seperated.
Anyway, enjoy.
Cheers
Jacques

Hi Jacques,
Thanks for that. I thought it would be straightforward but it’s helpful to have that confirmed before I get too excited about buying a CNC. I have some ideas for inlays of 0.8mm (1/32 inch) and have been testing these today with my Proxxon and Microfence. With cuts this narrow the accuracy of CNC would be a great help.
Thanks again,
Brian

Look into the X-Carve from Inventables if you want to splash out Brian. Not only is it a heck of fun to put together but it it also comes with it's own CAD and CAM software which very intuitive and free to use.
