Watch box and cufflinks/or rings.
Hi gang, A woman asked me if I could make her a box for her husband's watches and cufflinks. Very fiddly box so I made two of these. Will hold 8 sets of cufflinks or 16 rings. Timber is Red Ash and Princess Ebony. Hinges are from Aldav.

Another great creation there Paul. I have some of David's hinges too but I haven't fitted any yet, still looking for the right boxes to receive them.

Fantastic box I assume clients very happy with the result!. If you don’t mind me asking what are the dimensions of it? Thickness of the sides?
Thanks

Hi Dallas and Delbs.
With that box a woman contacted me a few weeks ago and had an image that she got somewhere from the net, which was something that she was after for her husband. I told her I couldn't do it. If she wanted it just like this image. I just didn't like the design of what she had sent me. She come back and said she didn't really like it either but it was all she could find. I said I'll make something and if she likes it great, if not, no worries. I made two, very fiddly, finished them yesterday, took the pics today, put it onto Etsy and she bought it tonight.
I've got an exercise book in my shed where I have pencil sketches of all my designs/shapes/etc. For those pillows the cavities need to be 90 x70. Gives me room to apply some of that adhesive black baize to 1mm cardboard, folded over, to protect the sides for the watches. Then I put padded velvet at the bottoms. The watches when around the pillows have a snug 85 x 65 (or so) compartment to sit in. So then when I allow for 7mm dividers inside 12mm timber sides, (for 8mm hinges) gives me an area of the box. For the ring compartment I allow 70mm in width, with 5mm scalloped timber inside them to hold the ring inserts in place, gives me 60mm, perfect for 2 rings.
Just so happened that the overall length of the ring section (width of the box) was perfect for 19mm rubber with 1mm upholstery velvet wrapped around (with hot melt glue on joint), to give me 9 rolls for 16 rings.
Overall size of box is 325mm x 210mm x 100mm.

Well done Paul nice box there. I have learned that any custom order with ring lines means i have to make the box starting from the ring line compartment and working outwards. Its not good when you end up with a portion of a ring line as free space

Hi Double D. Yes I know what you mean. You need multiples of between 20 and 22 for your ring compartment to work. How I get around that is any variation, say for example I am 12mm out, I'll put two 6mm spacers at each end and work them in to make as though they match.
