    Default WIP: Fatboy Box with laminated wood lid

    Hi, I just made this box for fun and I will post the procedures step by step.

    First, look at the final effect.

    Size: 8x8x3''

    Material:
    walnut, lacewood, purple heart, yellow heart, blood wood, ebony, red oak.

    Default choose the material

    get the materials ready:

    for the lid, I need blood wood, yellow heart, purple heart, lace wood and ebony
    for the box, I need American walnut for the box, yellow heart and purple heart as mitre key.
    for the tray, I used American walnut and red oak.

    Default make the laminated pad

    make the laminated lid


    1. cut the wood into slices with precise thickness
    2. glue the wood slices together
    3. cut the laminated piece into thin slices
    4. cut the laminated slice into designated shapes and sizes
    5. glue all the pieces together.
    6. add a lace wood frame

    That's a great looking box- particularly like the laminated lid . What is the size of the box

    Default make the body of the box

    1. cut the raw material to the shape
    2. cut the miter angle
    3. use a router, to cut two grooves on both sides of the walnut piece, one for the lid, the other for the bottom
    4. glue the body together.

    finish the box

    1. add the miter key joint
    2. install the lid
    3. make a tray
    4. add on surface coating, here I used a layer of varnish.
