Hi there, It seems my "lid concept" created some interest, so I thought I would share my latest box with the same type of lid. This one also is made totally from red mahogany. Hope you enjoy

"yes, Another box",......with the same type of lid made on my bevel ripping guide jig. This box I also made a clamping jig to make the panel frame first. The timber is all tasmanian blackwood, with the lid insert being White Beech.

    Enjoy,

    Paul,..

Nice box, Paul. I like the carved recess for lifting, but it might look less clunky if you made the lid frame pieces narrower.

Just finished this one yesterday, thought I might share some pics

Rosewood timber, the lid insert and tray is all from australian blackwood. As you can see the Rosewood has a rather "cranky" grain, but it has come up beautiful.

Congratulations Paul, this looks great, nicely proportioned. I bet you had fun doing the dovetails with that cranky rosewood grain. Did you have to take any special precautions?

Nice one Paul. You're definitely getting the hang of box-making.
That Rosewood looks great. Is it New Guinea Rosewood or NSW Rosewood?
(My guess is NSW Rosewood, so it's probably NGR.)

Hi and thanks for your kind replies. The Rosewood I got from Boutique Timbers so it is definately nsw rosewood, mid north coast of nsw rosewood to be precise.

The cranky grain was a tad hard to cut with my gifkin router bits, not as clean as other timbers, but thats pretty hard to detect anyway.

I like the way the appearance has that "antique" look about it.

    Paul
