Default Zebrawood Boxes - In the works

    Hey gang,

I've checked in on the site and the Box Making forum over the past few years, but this is my first post.

I'm working on some Zebrawood boxes, based on a Doug Stowe design, and I'm hoping to get enough shop time this weekend to finish up the lids. This is a project that had been sitting in a box, after our move, for some time and I've just really started getting back into the swing of things.

I chronicled the process up until now in a blog post (with lots of pictures!) if you'd like to take a look.

I've enjoyed digging into the old posts in this forum and seeing the amazing work that folks are doing. Very inspiring stuff!

    Hi Pete,
Hey they are coming together very nicely. I have seen the Doug Stowe DVD. It looks like you have the gear to turn out some lovely pieces.

Welcome to the forum and I look forward to seeing more of your work.
    regards
    Billy

Hi Pete, welcome aboard. Nice work. Doug Stowe has inspired the making of some great boxes.

Nice boxes Pete and welcome to the forum

I have seen Zebrawood here in Australia and have been tempted to buy some for boxes. Maybe in the next few months i'll get a piece.

    Keep the pics coming!

Andy - unfortunately (for you) Trend have Zebrawood, so its only a matter of time before you come home with a piece. For a truly funky box, I suggest Zebrawood with Purpleheart inlay.....

Incidentally, in case you haven't seen it, there's an article on honing guides in the current AWR magazine. They cover the Veritas MKII and the Richard Kell guide I was talking about for chisels.

    Cheers

Hi Pete, The boxes look good. I'm in Oakdale and the snow last week brought down an apple tree in a neighbors yard and a pear in mine. Got the logs cut up and the ends sealed, I was wondering what could be done with the wood whenever I can rip some boards from them. I just may try some boxes. Thanks.

Nice score on the downed trees! When life hands you lemons (or apples and pears) make lemonade (or boxes!)

    Hey gang,

I made some more progress on the boxes this weekend. The lids are now fitted for each box. Next up are some of the more decorative elements and the final sanding and finishing.

The pics and all the gory details can be found at

Very nice, Pete. Can't wait to see the finished product. Zebrawood is a bit coarse-grained and makes the shop smell like an escape of sewer gas for a while, but the grain patterns are excellent for box making. Welcome to the forum.

    Almost done!

Just some final sanding to do and a finish to apply.
