2008 Leigh Catalogue
The Leigh catalogue came with the Wood Review and I started drooling....... and then I stopped because so much of what I would like is either not available or needs to be ordered.
Even a search of Canada or US stores (from Leigh site) shows their stocks are out of date or non genuine parts.
If anybody knows how to access, say the NEW VRS with the dovetail bit package, I'd be interested.
I put my name down for the VRS with one supplier (the one that does not require money up front) and they sent me the old vacuum attachment!!! I had even sent a picture.

Well,
I am not very trusting of web sites in OZ for ordering, so I ordered my VRS from LV. It cost $83 AUD plus postage. I added the VRS in with other goodies that I ordered so I reckon the postage towards the VRS plus what I paid would be about equal to what they retail for in OZ. Just that the shopping experience with LV is soooo much better. Should receive the VRS on Monday 26 Nov.
Regards
Les

I have only had good experience with online ordering from Mik, Timbercon, Leigh-Neilson Aus, Mcjing and carbatec. To be fair i have had good experience from the US except in postage. It cost $18US to get an 8mm collet insured and freighted. Took 6 days. My VRS took 2 days from Adelaide.
Given the size of the VRS for the D24 (in the box it must be about 900mm long) I cannot see it being cheaper than $20 US to freight and that would be uninsured. You cannot be saving much if anything. Why don't you trust the Aussie sites? Have you had a bad experience?

Like Pusser, I have only had good experiences with buying via the web from the likes of Timbecon, McJing and others.
One that particularly stands out is Northwood Tools, I bought my 3 10" saw blades from them for what I thought was a very cheap price, about $100 fro a 24T, 40T and 80T, including postage. Blades arrived within 2 days, communication was excellent. I got their latest email newsletter yesterday and they now have these blades on Xmas special, the 3 blades for $69+postage.
I can highly recommend them, I was put on to them by another forumite, Spartan, who was also very happy with the quality.
I also bought their 8" dado set with brass shims, again excellent blades and this time free postage on a $150 dado set!
I have no connection to the company etc, etc, but good service should be mentioned as often as, if not more often than, bad service.

No argument with that Big Shed. And I've had wonderful service from VEK, Ideal and a multitude of Forum members but the thread was originally re the Leigh 2008 catalogue. I don't question that Dean and Pusser were able to purchase a listed object from the catalogue but I called Carbatec today and they may have the VRS in two weeks but were not aware of any deals on VRS + dovetail bits.
Other companies who require money up front and a 3 months wait - enough said already.
Good news is that Carbatec may have a sale in early December and 10% discount has been rumoured.

Sorry to stray off topic CP, but was replying to Les, who was saying he wouldn't trust Oz suppliers' websites.
I agree with you regarding the company you had all that trouble with, I certainly didn't have the dramas that you had, but even face to face they haven't impressed.
At the end of the day we should support the companies that do the right thing.
Good to hear that there may be another Carbatec sale shortly!

The reason I do not trust web sites from suppliers in OZ is that you have no way of knowing if the item is ACTUALLY in stock or not. Unlike LV and Rockler. Do not get me wrong. I have purchased many thousands of $ worth of goods from Carba-Tec. They are only 4km up the road from me. They are great to deal with and their web site is informative, but no stock levels are indicated. The good thing about Carba-Tec is that if you order over the web, they do not take your money until they ship the article. Others (will not mention names) take the money and then check their stock levels.
I do agree that the VRS will cost me a few $ more coming from LV, but that is me having a better shopping experience and feeling good about it. CT told me that they expect the VRS to arrive at the end of DEC. The $ is not always the bottom line for me.

Don't know where you got that one W o O? I have done mega research on this topic (not by choice) and while US and Canadian stores refer their customers to Leigh for specialised orders, Leigh will not supply individuals in Australia due to the arrangement they have with Carbatec and one other company. I am able to dig up the correspondence if required.
Nice thought though!

Leigh Correspondence
Graham I understand your frustration with *** and that’s why I suggested ********. Are you also suggesting that they are asking for payment up front?
Graham, as we have distribution in Australia we simply can not be in the position of competing with them. You are of course welcome to purchase from any Leigh Dealer anywhere.
If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us on our toll free number at 1-800-663-8932.

I can understand Leigh not selling direct to individuals. I am sure they rely heavily on their distributors for sales. It is my understanding that they only sell on-line to individuals in countries where they do not have distributors.
