Default How to clamp rough timber in router planingsled

Hello, I am looking to make a router planing sled for flattening rough twisted, curved timber up to 40mm thick and 2000mm long, and would like to know the best way to go about holding this uneven timber steady while planing it with the router, without damaging it or losing too much timber in the process.

I would welcome all ideas and suggestions
    regards,

    Dengy

    Hi Jill
a flat surface, chocks under the low corners and a few of these would work Veritas® Wonder Dog® & Wonder Pup® - Lee Valley Tools
or these Veritas® Bench Anchor - Lee Valley Tools
or these Mortised Bench Stop - Lee Valley Tools

but wedges against a wooden dog would be cheaper

When I used to use mine, I screwed pine batons to the metal frame and used the router in the sled to make it perfectly flat.

Then I put the slabs on the pine bed, and used wedges under rhe corners to stop it rocking. I used small bits of timber along the edge of the slab which I screwed into the pine batons to secure them, you can cut angles on the ends of the small clamping pieces to suit the slab edges.
