Default New experimental project with the router

Small wine table produced from small sections of timber.
    (a) The centre column was produced from six lengths of 40 x 19mm jarrah strips 400mm long.
    (b) The three legs were produced from 90 x 19mm material 300mm long.
    (c) The table top was a collection of 'Off-Cuts' of Solid Jarrah Flooring
    (d) The Top was given extra support from a piece of 16mm MDF then edged with 32 x 16mm Jarrah edging.
    (e) The top was supported with 40mm jarrah rails dovetailed into the column
    (f) The three legs were also dovetailed into the centre column.

From start to finish the table was completed with the router as the main tool and nothing was accomplished in the router table. The table top material was also cut to shape with the router and not a drop saw.

This has been completed by Merv Paull who has no access to computers so I thought I would submit his work. He was one of my volunteers when i was teaching people with Vision impairment woodwork only at that time he had no woodworking skills (by his own admission) and in return for his assistance supervising the members I promised him I would teach him some new routing techniques and this is his latest result.

I can honestly say I have never owned a down or up cut and have survived with the straight cutters to do what i wish to do.

There are a greater number of cutters you will require check out the Carb-I-Tool catalogue pages 13 - 17.

Working with templates is not simply producing shapes there is more to it. with the down / up cut cutters may be good for cutting out the templates in the first instance as they the templates need to be produced say from 12mm MDF

thanks tom, sorry i did not explain too well. i was talking about using a bushing glide to cut large circles up to 450mm i did this with a 8mm strait bit cutting only about 1-2mm at a time it worked okay with minor chipping just thought a down cut might cut a bit cleaner the blackwood was 20mm thick thanks hutch
