Handheld circle cutting jig for the router.
I recently needed to cut out a circle for a project. I didn't need a fancy jig so I made this one with scrap plywood.

learnt how make one just like it when I was a apprentice 45+ years ago, have never used anything else. never needed to remove the base plate just attach with the fence fittings.

I think that it was old technology then, China. Also works with a jig saw; that's what I used before I got my first router.
A slight improvement is to make the jig from clear perspex or polycarbonate - not fully logical, but I feel more comfortable if I can see the work piece through the jig.
