Even though this is an old thread, for the record someone has made the Mortise Pal and provided photos.

    http://www.routerforums.com/tools-wo...rtise-pal.html

It uses the plastic templates, bushing, etc, which would still require you to pay some part of the $365 purchase price, but hopefully a lot less.

I am not sure what the rules are about posting to such an old thread, but for any who is interested its now recorded!

    Back to Steve's original question.

I have the newer version of the Mortise Pal and find it is a great jig. And yes, it is very accurate. I know some folks make their own out of wood but this is very compact and like I said, it's right on the money. Oh, and did I mention how quick and easy it is to use.

Expensive, yes, just like most wood working equipment that's worth it's salt. Have you ever purchased a measuring tool from Incra or something that has a Festool name on it?

I'm very happy with the purchase of mine.

    Thanks,
    Jim

In case anyone is still interested the MortisePal has gone through a significant price drop, from $AUD 365 down to $AUD 199.

I have no affiliation with PWS! I am just considering whether to take the plunge myself at that price!

    Cheers
