Router bit what brands are best?
Hi I just got a trimmer and want to get a set of bits/cutters for it. I think a trimmer will do most of what I want for now. I do more metal work than working with wood and am slowly building up my tools. So I was wondering which brands to look for an which to steer clear of for bits.
Regards

Thank you for your responses thus far, so I have been having a bit of a squiz on Ebay as you do to try to find a good price. I want to steer clear of the no name stuffand gett a reasonable quality/brand for a reasonable price. What are your thoughts on - Marksmen, Faithfull and Trend. I want to get a set and these tend to be the branded ones on there at a reasonable price.

Whiteside. Available from "professional woodwork supplies' in Melbourne. I chose them as I believe they are regarded as the best by most American wood magazines
reviews. Ie Fine woodworking etc

Hi Jerms and all,
You cant go wrong sticking with the well known brands, but there are many suppliers of bits which are well made and good quality(Carbitool,Cmt and many more) but I would avoid buying a set as such you will find as with most sets be it router bits or carving chisel's or most things some of the pieces you will use constantly and others will never leave the box. I think you are better off getting the bits you need at the time and adding to your collection as you need to. I was recently after a large bit for 90mm skirting and pelmets for a book case and I could not find an Australian supplier that could come up with a bit with a cutting length greater than 50mm and I was after about 65mm I got a bit from a manufacturer in the US Amana tool co.(cost about what I expected to pay including postage) very good quality bit as are most of the well known brands I just couldn't sorce this size bit in Australia.
Regards Rod.
