    Default 2 pack troubles

built a couple of small cabinets out of walnut
client wanted 2 pack high gloss
i knew it was beyond what i could do here
and tried to talk him out of it but he wouldn't let it go - also had heard 2 pack was a PIA

i hired a pro to shoot it at his factory in bayswater
huge heated booth everything looked right and he came well recommended by a mate in long story short the job was botched and imperfectioons were showing in the top of the bigger cabinet

i inspected the job before the last coats were shot and it looked pretty good except for 1 tiny dimple - he insisted on shooting one more time to get it perfect - this time it came out with a heap more dimples or bubbles or dust specs whatever they are
let down by staff he said
too much work and the booth needs service staff said

can 2 pack be rubbed back, buffed and polished like lacquer ie nitro or WB
the imperfections are all in the final coat -

if i cant do the above the job is pretty much r00ted and i have lost the client and all the work that went into the job - i can probly sell it and hopefully recover the cost of the wood that went into it

thanks for any and all advice on this

I have used Auto cut & polish on 2Pack with good results.

The main issue I have seen is you end up with a different looking finish when compared to the other panels.

The piece to tried it on went from a gloss to a glass like finish. You might need to give all panels a quick polish to get a consistant gloss level across the whole piece.

Hopefully you have a spare peice, and give it a try.

Silicon is a problem with 2pack. If its been used on machines ie planer/jointer etc it comes through in bubbles and its usually in the final coats. Unfortunately it keeps doing it until its gone. Moisture can also cause bubbles, but there is usually blooming as well (opaqueness.) 2pack doesnt take nicely to recoat once cured as the surface doesnt key or soften with the next coat. Looks like a strip and start again.

    Default problem with two pak

if the dimples/imperfections are only in the top coat, try using a maroon pad. this is light abrasive so wont take the varnish all off. once clean, some wax will give it some shine. the maroon pads you can get from the company Lagler in knoxfield. cut it to fit under an orbital pad.

pretty certain we will strip back to bare wood
i can actually see a handprint within the woodgrain on the top of one of the cabinets
kind of pale like sanding dust
    what a nightmare

"Hand print" Yep take it back to bare wood and dewax-grease it properly before recoating.
If it was just dust/runs/overbuilt corners you could cut it and buff or recoat.

If the hand print was a bit of Devine Intervention, you may be sitting on a fortune!

Isn't the painter taking any responsibility for this?
