    Question Making an antique patina?

A client has an 1800x900 table with a solid sandblasted top that is infested with borers which he would like me to replace. Not only because of the borers but it is splintering too. The top needs to have an 'antique' (his words) look to it. I thought by the time I buy some old timber, joint it, glue it and finish it, he might as well buy a new table, so I've been trawling for old cheap solid tables to cannibalize a top from - not so easy to find on the internet. But I did find an unfinished project, a 1900x1200x30 table top in Aust red cedar, but it is a newish unfinished condition but cheap at $150. So my question is how best to finish this and perhaps techniques to distress it too.

    Hi Michael,
Sounds like oil or wax is the go. Contact or visit a shop Goods and Chatels in W'Gabba. They have everything there, and more importantly great advice on which products to use.

What's the rest of the table like and what's it made of?
    Cheers,

Michael, maybe check out Neil's polishing book, should answer your questions on both fronts.
