    Default Bathroom vanity tops protection

    Hi gurus,

    I have recently completed a number of camphor tops for bathroom and laundry vanities, they came up a treat using LINN bathroom furniture oil from Livos. Photo below.

    The question is whether it would be a good idea to protect these tops with some kind of wax or other top coat? Livos have another product called Bivos Oil wax? I'm not wedded to Livos but figure using the same brand probably makes sense if its a good idea at all.

    To be honest they look great but they are getting a few marks etc on them and that is with us being ultra careful, i guess wondering if there is anything that can help or just part of living with timber in heavy use areas?

    I'm hoping you used water proof glue to laminate the tops and paint around the cut out edges.

    I'm going to give my opinion, not based on science but on experience. I distribute a range of oils and i would not recommend them for wet area tops. You may be careful but others in the house may not care as much and you will end up with a patchy top so i would use a resin based product for wet areas to form an absolute barrier. The downside with a glossy resin finish is they scratch easy and after a short period of time will look old so i have found that lightly sanding the surface with fine wet and dry then a coat of wax will give a nice satin finish that will be more durable.

    Thanks DD, appreciate that response, will wait and see if anybody else would like to weigh in but im leaning towards your suggestion of applying a wax. Any downsides to doing that?

    Depending on the use the wax will need to be re applied once per year.
