    Default Blackheart Sassafras

I managed to finish turning a bowl 320mm diameter by 60mm thick of Blackheart Sassafras. This is a stunning piece of timber however I've finished sanding and I'm at a loss as to what sort of finish to apply. Any ideas?

My favourite timber. Please post a pic once finished.

I've used Danish Oil on one Sassafras bowl, but I had the best result using u-Beaut EEE Ultrashine, followed by Shellawax Glow.

It gave it a VERY nice shine. Blackheart Sassy comes up REALLY nice with the shine applied to it.

They're the two options I've been toying with Nathan. I was leaning towards Danish however you might just have twisted my arm. Just went out to the shed and taken a couple of pics of the unfinished bowl, for your interest

Niiice. Those colours will come up a treat with the Shellawax. And good turning too.

Its one of my favourite timbers. I've only turned with it and haven't had an opportunity to use it in any furniture yet.

There were some amazing boards at the Sydney show from one of the Tassie vendors. These boards had a green streak through them. I've never seen Blackheart Sassy with green in it. If I hadn't just spent the last of my money on New Guinea Rosewood I would have bought it for sure.

Let us know how you go with this bowl.

Thanks, will do. Still got a few grades of sanding to go then finish. Reckon I'll have it done by the weekend.

I would go EEE and glow as well, I love this timber and as yet, have only done a bowl but have some nice boards waiting for me to be inspired. Can't wait to see the finished product.
