Thread: Cabots Danish Oil

Is ok. I have no complaints with it. I think I have used Wattyl Danish oil as well, and they are about on par. I use whichever I can get my hands on easiest.

I use Organoil Danish because it doesn't go off in the tin. Three (spaced one day) coats and a buff up with a hessian cloth...purrfect.

Is that the Old Style Danish oil from Organoil Len? And have you used any other Danish oils to compare it with? I bought a 5 litre tin a month or so ago and took it back unused as it appeared to have no polyurethane in it, which I believe is why it doesn't go off in the tin, otherwise a handy feature as you say. Do you find it gives a good build?

I've just finished oiling two chairs with the Cabots and am impressed with the product. It goes quite gooey on the wood after about 10 minutes, which is what I want in a Danish oil. The trick is to wipe it off just before this happens, when it's just starting to get sticky.

The other thing about the Organoil Danish i couldn't handle was the smell. I must be allergic to something in it, as even the smallest whiff irritated me, although I didn't think it had an unpleasant odour. Assume it doesn't bother you?

JB I did try a couple of others and they did go off in the tin, can't remember which brands, been sticking to the organoil ever since. As to old/new I don't know though it does seem to be a very light formulation.

I really like Cabots Danish Oil. Easy to apply and polish, beautiful results on ironbark. the only thing I didn't like was having to scrub my hands with turps to get the stuff off - so wearing gloves is essential in my book. I also am a fan of Organoil's range.
