    Default Chatoyance vs sanding grit

    Hi everyone.
    Within our test campaign about wood chatoyance we ran a comparative test on two samples, one sanded to #240 and then shellac coated, and the other sanded to #10'000 and then shellac coated.
    This insanely high grit resulted in significantly higher chatoyance. The same happened on 5 wood species.
    Does this match your experience?

    Yes absolutely. I sand to 1200 grit prior to applying a sanding sealer, then grain fill and apply shellac using a pad to bring out the chatoyance ( ie a French polish). Thanks for sharing your results!

    I was surprised indeed because also going ABOVE #1500 had a great impact.

    What do you do between sanding and sealing? Do you remove dust from pores with some sort of brush?
