Thread: CIG HVLP spray kit still available

If you are thinking that the little beaver is a HVLP in any sort of serious way I think you will be disapointed these thinks are only ome step past the old vacume cleaner spray gun.
I understand that they can be coaxed into doind some usefullwork But they arent a "propper" HVLP rig

Soundman, What do you consider a proper H.V.L.P. set-up? If bsrlee is happy with his new rig that's all that matters right? Let us know how it sprays bsrlee or maybe 'cause it's the anniverary model you might not want to take it out and use it!! J.B.K.

Would like any other input on the "Easy Sprayer". A local mob has a few refurb units for $70 which seems like good value if they work OK. CIG calls it a high volume low pressure unit on the packaging, the appeal of max material transfer/minimal overspray of HVLP appeals to me, if it's applicable with this unit.

Anyone else???

JBK a little backgroung here. The CIG easy sprayer is a cheap sparay outfit that has been arround for many (at least 20) years in this country ( I seem to remember that it once was called the "eager beaver"). It was designed & marketed specificaly into the very bottom of the spraying market.
In the times when compressors were an uncommon thing in the home workshop & a new spray gun of any description cost you at least a weeks wages you could go down the local K mart & buy one of these things for a fraction of any other form of spray equipment.

now to the current time.
HVLP has become a term associated with "properly concieved" professional spraying equipment, there are a couple of forms of this, and the asians have coppied the market leaders.
A "proper" HVLP unit will do all the things that are accepted as part of the deal.

Now don't get me wrong the I have seen many things done with these units. they are good for spraying cane furniture............. & it is possible to spray a car with these if you aren't real fussy.
Just don't expect them to perform as well as a modern HVLP unit.

as i'm not a really young fella any more i remember a good mate of mine building his EJ saden out front of his house
he said he was going to paint his car with the then named eager beaver
as you could imagine we all laughed really hard

well i take my hat off to him
it has to be the best straight colour (orange ) paint job i think i have seen
he still has the car 20 years on and the paint job is outstanding
just shows its not always the big brand equipment its down to the skill of the person

btw my mate is now one of the best painters around melbourne has his own shop ...... not bad for a self taught hey
and still has the beaver in his office

My Vactric predates the Easysprayer by about 15 years - it even LOOKS like an old barrell vacuum cleaner - has a purpose-made Arnold spraygun , has sprayed many a panelbeating job on lots of cars, and has handled two pot Paracryl with ease when the hired compressor & gun completely stuffed up the finish coat on my trailer sailer. The only stuff it won't spray is plastic wall paint.

I realise this is an antique thread and chances are slim, but I've just inherited a Cigweld easysprayer and thought I'd give it a go... There is however, no literature to be found such as that which would come with the thing.
Now whilst I am an Australian male and therefore would have no use for the "Instructions" normally, I thought it would be harmless enough for SWMBO to have a go with it... While I'm in the shed using the proair and DeVilbiss gun on a V8 or something equally masculine.

So I'm wonderring if anyone knows where I might procure the elusive paperwork that goes with the Easysprayer...?

Slim you may say, but I should have these and will dig them out hopefully and send them to you. And swmbo thinks I'm a hoarder maybe she's right but you never know when someone might need something you have.

I wonder if you still have the instructions for the Cigweld Easy Sprayer, haven't used it for ages and the mice have eaten the instructions. Would like to spray paint the fence!
