    Default Clogged sandpaper discs

Trying to clean off paint on a caustic dipped door but even 40 grit disc clog up straight away. Any suggestions?

Have you tried a scraper to get the worst off?

Bahco have carbide paint scrapers that are far superior to ye olden flat blade scrapers. Total Tools and all of the other usual suspects (with the exception of Bunnings) sell them.

Bunnings have a UniPro equivalent but it is an ergonomic nightmare compared to the Bahco tools.

Second the Bahco 650 Ergo scraper, the thing is excellent. I bought mine to scrape a 140 year old French painted door, used a heat gun to soften the paint and an ordinary scraper, then the Bahco to get the recalcitrant stuff off. The one without the knob handle, but with straight blade, was about $35. Currently $29.99 at Syd ney Tools.

The carbide blades are really durable.

Use it all the time, touch up here and there, oak table top earlier this week, skirting boards...

There is another (625 Ergo) which takes smaller, shaped (round, pear, triangular) blades, excellent for mouldings.

The other suggestion I would make is to try an open weave abrasive - like Mirka Abranet P60. you can pick out the clogging if it happens, with a. bradawl...

Paint stripper does a good job too.

40 is grinding, not sanding. Do not recommend, way to aggressive..

Caustic baths, "chemical" / "natural" paint strippers, heat guns are used to soften the old paint. Soft paint and power sanding is not a great combination as you have found out. Hand stripping with a "paint scraper" is the only way to go. The traditional "Skarsten No 62" is my preference as the blades can be resharpened & are easily replaced plus the two handed design allows you to get physical without risking wrist injuries.
