Question how to darken or tint Danish Oi?_ how to use danish oil as a grain filler? Potassium

    hi,

Can anyone "in the know" give me any advice as to what different compatible types of stains or tints I could use to mix with Cabots danish oil ?

I would like to get various tone of brown in to the danish oil.
Can Danish oil be used as a grain filler as well just be applying to the the timber ( in my case Australian oak ) allowing to set for a while and just rubbing back a number of times?

Can Potassium Permanganate crystals be mixed with danish oil to create various brown tones in the oil?

thanks any tips would be very much appreciated.

Any turps based stain should mix well with Danish oil, alternatively, paint tint (the stuff they use to colour paint) will mix with just about anything.
The potassium permawhatsit or as some would know, Condies crystals, only goes brown after it oxidizes. I know it is water soluble, not sure if it will mix with an oil though. Might warrant an experiment.

I use Wattyl stains for tinting, oils/lacquers etc without any issues:

    Wattyl Craftsman Traditional Stain

Make sure you test on some scrap first.

    good luck
