Default Difference between cheap gun and expensive gun

Hi. Can anyone tell me what difference I can expect between a typical cheap hvlp gun and a good quality one. Is it just a usability thing, a length of service thing, or is it something about the spray that comes out ? better atomised ? less orange peel ???

I recently got into spraying lacquer and first up I bought one of those sets of 3 cheap guns - a touch up gun, a 1.4 and a 1.7 hvlp. I did this because I thought that if I never had the chance to put three dissimilar guns (and therefore approaches) side by side I'd never learn the difference between them, and there would be a big gap missing in my knowledge.

Now I dont mind upgrading. I'm trying to figure out what to expect - there is no point in upgrading if the only advantage I get is something that is not particularly meaningful to me. However I dont want to carry on using cheap guns if there is something inherent in them that means I will never get a high quality job.

    cheers

I f you upgrade to a good quality gun, I'm talking starting price $600 you will notice a big difference, they are manufactured with better materials and tolerences, all this adds up tp better balance, ease of use, the controls are more precise, atomization is more consistant, usually there are more varied sizes of air caps and needles availiable. Altogether this will mean less waste and a better finish

I dont think I could justify $600+ at this stage. What about this gun : STAR Professional Gravity Spray Gun-1.4mm at $300 . Do you think it would do the job or will I still be wishing I had gone that bit higher ?

    cheers
