    Default Exterior Veneer Doors, What finish?

    Hi all,

    Have not been here a while, I forgot what a good place it is.

    Just wondering what the best way to protect these cheaper doors is and if oil offers enough protection.

    What I am currently experiencing is as follows;

    i brought a Corinthian exterior Maple Vaneer door and gave it 2 good coats of decking oil only to find that rain is seeping under the glass in quite a large amount too.

    Now my carpenter who installed it said that the oil is fine for these doors as long as you reapply once or twice a year which is fine by me and to me it makes sense that it does seal it and even if it hasn't the door should not be leaking water on its first night in the rain.

    Anyway will call them up tomorrow concerning their 5 year warranty but im sure they will try to wiggle out of it, will keep you all updated.

    When life deals you lemons, dont complain just get on with it and make lemonade.

    You will probably find that part of their installation instructions is to protect the door from the weather.
    Good Luck.

    I had corinthian doors come out and look at it they said that the glass was not sealed in properly and she will recommend to her boss that they replace the door and pay for a carpenter to refit, I still have not heard back but i assume well hope i will this week.

    They seemed quite good and although its a pain at least they are sticking by their warranty.

    Concerning the oil she was saying it wont provide enough protection and to use a gloss finish.
