Default Finish for hardwood photo frames

    Hi Guys,

I'm new here but getting into making my own frames for my photography.

Im currently making some frames from old hardwood ive found lying around, using a thicknesser to re-finish the timber but still allowing some of the cracks and worn areas of the wood to show through to give the frames some character. I'm a bit stuck with how to finish the frames though and was thinking oiling would be good but i dont want the oil to do any damage to the artwork and i dont want people to have to re-coat the frames overtime. So i guess im looking for a finish that does not need re-applying but doesnt look artificial, or glossy...ie i still want it to look natural.

    Your throughts would be appreciated.

    Cheers

    Ash

If it were me i'd spraypaint them in a pre-cat laquer in a low gloss finish...

Very easy to spray (if you have the equipment compressor/hvlp spray gun), touch dry in < 10 mins and repairable.
