I am hoping to help my brother finish an old pine floor in his home. The floor has been covered by carpet/lino for most of its 80 or so years. Cost is important as the budget is limited. He had a quote for sanding and polyurethane but this also involved moving out for a few days, not wearing shoes etc for a few more. Really inconvenient with a young family with another on the way. He is also concerned with solvents with a pregnant wife. Is there a suitable oil finish that is inexpensive, relatively easy to put on, is usable fairly quickly and looks great. He is not after a high gloss look but a 'lived-in' look as this would suit the character of the house. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
