Thread: What finish for Tassie Oak Dining Table?

There are numerous options,
You, could use, water based varnish, wipe on poly, oil finish, spray on 2 pack lacqeur, to name but a few.
Would steer well clear of any kind of gloss finish as it will look cheap and nasty in my opinion.

Probably would sway towards oil finish or wipe on poly if you are doing it at home.and dont have spray gear.

Livos have a good oil based product for counter tops that is good for temperatures up to 50degC. I have used it on HUon Pine coasters with great success. Used for hot cups of tea and soup on the dining table

sorry, but you need a water bassed finish on a dinning tabe like a hole in the head.......unless you are going to spend a lot of money.. water based finishes simply do not have the durability or hardness required for a dinning table.

If you are concerned about toxisity.......watter bassed fnishes require care inn this matter no less than other finishes.

a good oil bassed finnish is what ya needing I would tend to an oil resin blend

Thank you for the lovely words about the Livos countertop,it is always good to hear from those who have used the products. As Denguee mentioned, the Kunos Counter top oil has the added benefits of being heat resistant to 50 degrees, this is able to withstand direct contact with hot cups, plates etc. The Kunos oils are also certified food safe so can be used with confidence on tables, bench tops or chopping boards etc that come in direct contact with food.
The Livos oils are penetrating oils, leaving no layer on top to become brittle and restrict the timber and they will highlight the natural colour and grain of the timber. Whilst they are durable they are also natural so can mark through contact with chemicals, however these marks can be quickly and easily spot repaired as well as rejuvenated if necessary. Coatings that leave a layer on top really look great until the first scratch appears.
