Thread: Finishing Tallowwood dining table

I'm not an expert by any means and I have encountered the same result using Urethane myself. I don't think it was the nature of the wood or the problem would have happened on the first coat and then probably over time rather than immediately on application of the second coat. In my case it was firstly, kiln dried Sydney Blue Gum, not a waxy, oily wood at all. It was the middle of winter and the workshop temperature was 4 degrees when I fired up the gas heater, I waited for the temp to reach 15 degrees and applied the second coat, but of course the wood was still cold and the coat blistered immediately. I had to move fast to clean that one up. The second disaster was caused by a similar level of impatience, Tallowwood this time - I used a brush which had been previously used and was contaminated with turps. Another mess.
That's all I can offer, though I see that your post was in February, so probably not temperature.
I've had no problems since, but am about to embark on a major job with Tallowwood slabs, so I must be very careful.
