Glossy finish required
Hi guys,
I recently made my wife a sewing table out of timber i had in my garage. Basically I'm only interested in the table top. I used a 12mm piece of MDF and painted it with leftover exterior paint (i know, i know). Anyway, it looks good in the room but I wanted to do something to spruce up the tabletop. A clear lacquer or the like would suffice ? I'm open to any ideas.

Scott, have you thought of maybe using some Rustins Plastic coating?
KevI try and do new things twice.. the first time to see if I can do it.. the second time to see if I like it

Sand to bare wood, apply primer/undercoat and then several coats of (whatever colour) acrylic lacquer (ie the stuff you use on cars). Or turf the MDF top and just pick up a sheet of white melamine faced board for $15 and edge it with a strip of timber (or something) (probably the cheapest option).

How about laying a sheet of glass on top. Thats smooth and glossy.

I agree with MS part two. Turf the MDF. Replace with melamine or visit IKEA and look in the bargain bin for orphan shelving or small benchtop.
MDF has it's uses but show stay sight unseen I reckon.
