Default hard wax oil cleanup - different types of turps + disposal

I have been using mineral turps to clean up HWO rollers/brushes.

What is the difference between that + water based turps, low odor turps, gum turpentine - are they all interchangeable for the purposes of HWO clean up?

What do you do with all your 'spent' turps. Where is the best place to get rid of it all?

I use very small amounts of white spirits for the clean up. WS and turps are very effective weed killers, so I usually use it sparingly for that, especially around brick pavers. Some years ago a member did some research and came to the conclusion that letting it evaporate off was probably the most ecologically sound method because it breaks down as it evaporates. However, if that is done in a metal/plastic container then there will be residue which could be hard to shift, so maybe use a disposable plastic or paper cup which can be put in the bin once dry?

We’re allowed to burn off where I live, so I use spent turps to start the fires. If I end up with more than I can use I take it to the recycling depot at my local tip.

I understood that mineral turps breaks down the paint's oil(s) in the cleaning process whereas gum turpentine, which is supposed to be based on tree resin(s), is used to dilute without breaking down paint.

I also thought that White spirits was the American language name for what we call mineral turps ?

And...what are HWO rollers? I searched for the meaning of the HWO acronym and found some interesting meaning such as Hazardous Weather Outlook, Hardcore Wrestling Organisation, Horse World Online and even Hindu's Women Organisation... but nothing remotely connected with rollers!?!!

    I am all confused

    Cheers

The White Spirits that I use has a different odour to the (common) turps I use. Wikipedia has an analysis of them.

I just use the Uni-pro 100mm 4mm nap rollers, throw them out after a few uses. Normally i'll scrape out the majority of the hard wax oil from the plastic roller tray and whatever is left in there just dries up and you can use the roller tray again. Don't use any spirits that way.

Probably not going to work if you use brushes, though.
