Help with Cherry Stain
Hi Guys,
I'm trying to stain two bedsides tables to match my bed.
The bed is stained in a colour the bed manufacturer call 'cherry'.
I've followe a recipe that I found here I believe to make my own cherry...It seemed to look good initially but has turned out to be a bit 'orange'.
I'm looking for some advice on how I might proceed to get the stain looking a little closer to the cherry timber colour which is 'browner' than my current attempt.
The recipe I used 2 parts maple, 1 part jarrah - using feast watson prooftint.
Any help/suggestions appreciated.
Regards
Warren

Take you current mix and add prooftint oak (light brown) or walnut (dark brown). I suggest making several tiny test batches at different ratios with an eye dropper or teaspoon. Test each mix underneath the tables to find the best match. Prooftint is available in 50 ml bottles so it wont cost too much to play around a little. Note that when you put your clear finish on top of the stain it will bring the colour out, so I'd recommend applying the clear to all the test patches before you select which mix ratio to go with.
