Thread: Help with Swansdown Mop on Drill

My previous experience with these mops was a ubeat 4" 75fold on my drill using eee ultra shine on oil based poly to cut out 2000grit sand marks & it did a good job. But I brought one of the other brand 6" 100 fold mops using the auto grade Meguiars M105 compound to try & cut the fine sanding marks out in my 2 pack poly finish but every time two problems happen.
1, The process always add ~800grit scratches in various places. With lite or hard pressure.
2, I can never seem to get all the sand marks out near the edges of the flat wood. No matter how much speed or pressure, the inner middle areas are nice & gloss, but the few cm inwards from the edges & it's semi gloss.

In the end I had to resort to using my cheapo SCA rotary buffer & M105 with wool pad holding flat & it came up great just a bit of swirl, no issues at all with not buffing the edges.

The 1st problem happened the very first time I used the mop, before that I conditioned it by running it on the edges of a copping saw blade & after each use when the compound dries I do it again so the mop is soft.

Has anyone had these problems & did they find the cause? Maybe the compound I use isnt ideal on swansdown?
