    Unhappy maranti french doors

    Hello all ,
    I bought a couple of maranti french doors last year . I didn't have much spare time so just gave them a coat of linseed oil and installed them . Now i am looking at them thinking i could of done much better and would like to know what products and technique i should use .

    Since you have already used an oil, your only real option is too stick with it.

    Possibly not. You can probably use a shellac-based primer to isolate the oil finish then paint it with acrylic or oil paint. Bullseye makes one or you can buy straight shellac.

    I've done this over oil-based paint but not straight linseed oil. Check with a paint supplier with knowledgeable staff.

    Use oxalic acid to thoroughly wash done the doors, may need 2 sessions, sand/prepare then treat as new timber to be painted/stained.
    Meranti is not classified as a particularly suitable timber to use when it is exposed to external weather.

    Hey guys! The original post on this thread is 15 years old!!! Why do people resurrect stuff like this? Well it's just too easy isn't it, we're always so busy pondering the problem.
