Thread: Mirrotone Vs Wattyl

Mal,

I myself use mirotones 830/30. Been using that for years. Before mirotone I using Croda's equilivant and before that was Wattyl's equilivant.

I have had Wattyl reps trying to convince me to go back to there product by supplying me free tins of the stuff, but have always sticked with Mirotone.

Why? Simply because I am used to the product and know how to use it well. Should I change brands I will have to acquire a "feel" for it and that takes time... Something I don't feel the need to do at this stage while things are going great guns

But in saying that! I also relise that these paint/lacquer manufacturers all use a simialar reciepe to manufacture there product. So you can usualy be assured that changing from one product to the other brands product won't be much of a change, obviously I am talking about the broader varity of product, and not specifics.

So if price is your concern, go to both suppliers and tell them what you are doing. See what price they will supply there product to you and go from there. You may be surprised at the reaction. The lacquer market is a pretty competetive market for these companies so they seem to do what they have to get more custom.

Same same same. I have used the Mirotone product and yep, a great flat finish . I also use Wattyl's "Silkwood" which is a 2 pak, acid catylist. I use this in clear and colours in gloss ratings from 30% to 60% and have had fantastic results . Touch dry in about 5 minutes and re-coat in 2 hours . The beauty of this product is, i can get it colour matched to any colour i need .

Yeah, Silkwood is the equilavent to mirotone 830. I use the 3622 sealer as well. Excellent sanding properties. Amazing what a bit of talc powder can do

Works well in a humid wet and hot environment...

Hey Guys

Ever tried using Haymes finishes.
100% Australian made and owned, and not under the thumb of any of the big brother companies.

I'll bet they have comprable products that are as good as, if not better than, those you are using now.

Have a look at their site http://www.haymespaint.com.au/ it doesn't contain their industrial finishes yet but they do have a great range and it is well worth a try. Haven't used lacquer for a number of years but used to have fantastic success with their Nitro. 1080 & 1060 (80 & 60% gloss)

Be brash, be bold, be brave. Give 'em a try. You've got nothing to lose.

Unfortunately there closest distributor to me is just under 1000km away. I have contacted them though, so will be interesting to see what they say. Would be great to spend money on an australian product. Don't know if Croda was Australian owned but they recently were taken over by Amerlock which is a US company.... To much of that happening. Go Dick Smith
