Sorry! Not a joke. An actual question.
We got a Norblett dining suite second hand last year ($230 Six chairs extension table ) From what I can gather Norblett was around about the same era as Parker furniture, and was made in SA. Plimpton to be exact. Nice fine Danish inspired design. Anyway, the finish looks a bit "unauthentic". I don't know if it is just 30 or 40 years of Mr Sheen plus people grime, or if Linseed oil was applied by someone. (Smelt very strongly after we got it home.) To me the finish is too antique rather than the nearly bare wood look of Danish furniture. Also the extension leaf is a completely different color and finish. Obviously it has spent its life folded up and hidden away from the trials and tribulations of the outside world.
So where do I start? What would it have been finished with in the first place? and how do I get it back to something close to its original. Would the middle leaf be like it was originally or would that finish now be too dry or old or something. If that is original, I don't really like it. Too flat.
Will try and post pics if wanted. First have to get everything off table.
Thanks in advance.
