Thread: Osmo Polyx Clear coat dissolves/dilutes Osmo stains

I’ve found the same thing. No solutions sorry as I’m a novice!

Hey guys Im about to finish my new Excelsior model and Ive been having problems with my old clear not drying and remaining a little sticky even years latter so I need to switch it up but am worried about yellowing. Has anyone used Tamiya clear coat TS-13 and if so have you noticed any yellowing over time?

I wanted to find out if anyone else has experienced this, if it is normal to lose some of the colour or if this is not normal and I am doing something wrong? (Perhaps I need to wait longer between coats?)

Any experience or input would be greatly appreciated.

Easy answer. You're using an oil stain and an oil based product in Osmocoat.

PROBLEM

They are compatible or same base - oil. So the oil will dissolve the stain and pull it off.

EASY FIX

Use a non compatible stain and base
So water stain or dye should stay put under Osmocoat
So should an alcohol based stain or dye.

Water base or oil based stain or dye under shellac or lacquer.

Oil or alcohol based stain under water based finishes.

Try Feast Watsons Proof Tint - Never used it but supposed to be good under most finishes

What gets me is that this is exactly the instructions on the Osmo Oil Stain instructions ... I figured it was all in my technique

I actually moved away from Osmo altogether and went with Feast Watson Brown Japan Proof Tint followed by Feast Watson Varnish - very happy with the finish [IMG]file:///C:/Users/Hy/AppData/Local/Temp/msohtmlclip1/01/clip_image001.gif[/IMG]
