Padauk Kitchen top, aging and color options
Hello,
I'm a complete novice. Just bought a beautiful piece of Padauk to use as a kitchen worktop. However, my partner finds it way too bright red. Go figure... I'm trying to tell her it will darken over time however she is interested in using a darker oil right away.
So, I used WACO worktop oil natural on one side and we're experimenting a bit on the other side with the Waco Black maintenance oil. In general I prefer the look of the natural. Not just the color, but the way it complements the details of the wood. However she prefers the darker oil as it tones down the red and brings it closer to a Burgundy. I wonder though, as both will age... Is using the black oil going to just make it extremely dark and dull looking over time? Should I try to convince her to stick with the natural oil for a year (!) or two before darkening it already? Or will it look roughly the same in 5 years regardless of which oil we use now?
Any suggestions most welcome!
