Exclamation Where to get plastic laminated sheet

    Hi all,

I am just picking up wood working. For starter, I just want to use MDF to build couple of small bookshelf before going to plywood and other more expensive material.

I have been looking for the wood grain plastic laminated sheet to glue on top of the MDF (very common for low end bookshelf that you will find in Walmart and Target...). Hoever, I just cannot find it. I have checked Home Depot, Lows, and search Google for days. The closest thing I can find are either the real wood veneer or the thick liminated sheet for kitchen counter top.

Anyone know where I can purchase the wood grain plastic laminated sheet?

    Thank you in advance.

I know of a couple of suppliers of that sort of thing, however freight would be a bit of a problem as it is about 8,000 miles or so between here and there. Do a search in your local area for either a kitchen supplier as wood wrap and laminates are common for them or do a search for the local "laminex" supplier they are a global company so there should be something near you.

    Raymond,

It sounds as though you are referring to melamine, which, as far as I am aware, is not available as a separate sheet material. It is normally coated onto particle board in factories. However, like most members of this forum, I am Australian, so I cannot be sure of what may be available in the US.

Any relation of William, by the way?

Not related to William, although I don't mind to have the hot girls dancing around me.

No luck finding the plastic veneer yet. I am starting to think they are for wholesale only.

Do a search on the forum. Someone was looking for this about six months ago and there was a couple of web sites put up. Only problem is that they are in Australia as this is where the forum is located.

you could always ask roland & Sailing American for thier advice, they seem to be active over there.

why bother with MDF when its just as cheap to use pine and some stain ?
