Default RE: U Beaut shellac & sanding sealer...

I have read the PI & info in the handbook on U Beaut sanding sealer. I note the compatibility with water soluble dyes.

Also in the handbook is a recommendation to use left over white shellac (presume 25% ethanol added) as a sanding sealer by adding (IIRC) 6 vols of ethanol to this.

What I am wondering is...Is this the same or similar to U Beaut sanding sealer...or more precisely, if I follow the directions & make sanding sealer from leftover shellac, will the job still be suitable for staining with water soluble dyes?

    ( I hope the question makes sense..LOL)

    Great...Simple & clear. Thanks...

So just to nail things...Should I raise the grain with hot water, apply the sanding sealer & sand when dry?

    Or do something differently?

...the timber is maple and probably doesn't need filling...on porous timbers eg mahogany, when would I grain fill?

    TIA
